Literacy (PTO) Representative Information

The school PTO often appoints the Literacy Representatives. The Literacy Representatives act as the liaison between the school and the CLC. Early each fall, the CLC provides a training hour to introduce Literacy Reps to their jobs, provide publicity resources, and give the Reps a chance to share ideas.


PTO/School Responsibilities:

  • Appoint Literacy Representative for the school
  • Recruit tutors from parents & others involved with the school
  • Publicize the program at Back to School nights with reminders throughout the year whenever possible

Literacy Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Educate teachers about the program
  • Work with the teachers to identify at-risk students
  • Obtain parent permission slips
  • Contact volunteers to schedule training sessions
  • Give the CLC the names of volunteers and their preferred training sessions
  • Coordinate the schedules of the tutors with students
  • Keep track of and report hours for each tutor to CLC secretary
  • Provide the CLC with a list of tutors working in school
  • Provide the CLC with a list of students and grade level no later than February
